Yes, we are busy with the Lord's prayer as it is commonly known, although it is the prayer that the Lord taught His disciples and not the Lord's prayer.
Today we are going to look at the "ASK" part of prayer and this is something that certainly we all know to do and have done.
The prayer starts with praise and ends with praise and in the middle is where we ask.
John 16:23-24 does not say that your Father knows what you need so you don't need to ask.
So we need to ASK.
So it is not wrong to ask it is not selfish. We need to ask Father. But we need to do it correctly not for our own selfish lusts. We cannot ask Father for something that is going to lead to sin.
The prayer is focused on God it starts with God and it ends with God. It must always be about His kingdom and His will first.
In James it says we have not because we ask not. It is impoertant to remember that when Jesus taught His disciples this prayer it was before He was crusified and before He rose again and accended to heaven. Later on Jesus said to His disciples everything you ask the Father in my name you will receive.
Before we ask we say Father thy will be done, thy kingdom come and then we ask because nothing must be more important for us but that His will be done and that His kingdom come. Why? Because His will is always the best no matter what we think.
